Going the Extra Mile!
Some patients may already be aware that we are a teaching practice, this means we host foundation doctors and medical students at our practice, our doctors impart their knowledge and hopefully instil in them a thirst of general practice.
As well as our supervising doctors giving feedback to the junior doctor and medical student throughout their placement, they also get the chance to give feedback regarding their time with us, and we are pleased to announce that we have been nominated by people that have been on placement, as part of the 'Going the Extra Mile'.
At Lytham Road Surgery, we pride ourselves that Going the Extra Mile is the norm, as we always strive to Go the Extra Mile for all patients, families, staff and anyone on placement with us.
Once the placement coordinators have shared the feedback with us, we will share with you.
Friday 29th November 2024
Friday 29th November, marked a very special day of celebrations at Lytham Road Surgery. It marked the 25th anniversary of Elaine Robinson working for Lytham Road Surgery! which is just a fantastic achievement, we celebrated with cakes, presents and flowers and we think she very much enjoyed the surprise
THANK YOU ELAINE FOR YOUR SERVICE 🎁
17.11.24 - Shared Care
As a practice, we have taken the recent difficult decision, that we are no longer able to enter into shared care agreements. This type of agreement places significant additional workload on the Practice, for which we do not receive any additional resources to enable us to complete this optional work, therefore the steps we have taken are to protect the delivery of our core GP Services.
We know that some patients may be disappointed in this decision and for that we apologise. the only exception to this is the prescribing of DMARDs which are Disease-modifying anti-rheumatic drugs.
At present we will continue to honour existing shared care agreements, however any recommended changes in medication and/or dosage will be considered a new agreement and will therefore be declined.
We hope you understand our reasoning for this.
regards
Dr M Hassan & Dr M Robertson

Expediting (chasing) of referrals 13.03.24
Going forward we will not be chasing any secondary care referrals on behalf of patients, unless their is a significant deterioration in the patients medical condition, if this is the case please ask for a GP appointment as it may be that a different referral is now required.
This creates extra work for our secretarial team, which could be better spent sending new and/or urgent referrals, therefore we hope you can understand our reasoning behind this.
if you would like to chase referrals or know waiting times yourself then please feel free to do so using this information: North West – My Planned Care NHS
Book an appointment using the NHS e-Referral Service - NHS (www.nhs.uk)
we would ask that you no longer call to speak to reception or our referrals line to chase these as they will not be actioned.
Request for appointments via the phone
We would like to advise all our patients, that there is no need to be stuck in a phone queue first thing in the morning when you are requesting a same day appointment, many times we have appointments still available later in the day, so please try and call later where possible - Thank you.
Do you want a friend or family member to be able to liaise with us regarding your health matters?
If so, you will need to complete and return one of our forms, Permission to Share Please note this is different to Proxy Access, which is online. if you have any queries please ask reception for more details.
NHS APP Workshop
- do you have the NHS App?
- do you not quite know how to use it?

Care Navigation/Signposting
Virtually everyone who calls a GP surgery to make an appointment asks to see to a GP, but very often help will be available more quickly from other highly skilled medical professionals such as nurses or pharmacists, or from another services, including the voluntary sector, who can support people with a wide range of social, emotional or practical needs.
The Reception team have received extra training as care navigators, to help them to direct you to the most appropriate source of help, in some cases, ailment depending, they might ask you some triaging questions and refer you to a local pharmacy, under the minor ailments scheme, they will advise you what to do when the referral has been electronically sent to the pharmacy
Please note that any information you give to our staff will be treated in the strictest of confidence and will help to direct you to the most appropriate person or service.
